I think that my guided reading lesson went well after some reflection. My students were actively engaged the entire time. My lesson focused on determining the most important fact on each section of the text. Initially, I thought that my lesson was going to be geared towards referring to the text for support. However, after receiving feedback, I realized that my lesson was actually on finding important facts.

My students enjoyed the activities that I had planned. They whisper read each section of the text and were given large sticky notes to write their important facts. They were also given tricky stickies for words that they came across that they did not know. Towards the end of my lesson, the entire class started to line up fo go to their special. However, my students did not even notice and we continued with the lesson. It was not until one student finally noticed that all of us realized that we needed to conclude the lesson for the day.

There were a few times that one student would call out during the lesson. I simply asked for a quiet hand and did not call on that student. Other times he had his hand raised while I was trying to explain something and I simply asked him to put his hand down. Otherwise, every student in the group was completely engaged. I do however think that my host teacher did speak with the class about how their behavior should be while I was being observed.

I was not able to implement the entire lesson upon observation. This was not because the students were not paying attention, we simply have started the Daily 5 centers a litter later then we usually would. We also were on a modified schedule because of PSSA’s. I finished the lesson the following day that I was in. The students were just as engaged which told me that they did actually enjoy the text and the activities that were planned.

The plan was followed exactly. I went through the special features that the text had and where to find the definitions to words that might have been new to them. I had comprehension questions to ask the students at the end of each section. The students were able to answer the questions and refer to the text to support their answers. Some students even used their tricky stickies in the process.

In the future, and based on the feedback that I received, I would include more modeling. I had just given the students the tricky stickies and did not show them how to use them. I also did not model how to find the most important facts in each section. I would have gone through the first page and did a think aloud to show the students what I expected them to do. I would have done the same thing while modeling how to use the tricky stickies.

In the future, I would add the modeling piece as well as adapt the lesson to better serve the focus of finding the most important facts since it was intended of referring to the text for support. Dirty handz 3graffiti movies & documentaries. I would also try to add in the running record piece while meeting with a group.

Guided Reading Process

For me writing is the process of express our ideas and thoughts on a paper or in any other material where you want to transmit it; using signs. And reading is the process of understand and analyze any type of information that is written. Reading and writing are skills which we do not possess at birth; we develop them as we grow and however they are extremely important to integrate into society. They are two skills that are in development throughout life. The characteristics of a good writer are many and depend on each kind of writer, generally a good writer must have an extensive vocabulary that allows to express their ideas without repeating the same words. The writer should know how to express their ideas easily and creatively in a way that the reader feels attracted, must plan well what they want to express and be organized. The most important thing should be their desire to write and although it was difficult they can enjoy the writing. To be a good writer you have to be also a good reader, read other stories that stimulate the imagination. A good reader is passionate about a writing and is not calm until it ends completely, they pay attention to the details and analyze all ideas while reading. And especially enjoys what they read and have a great desire to read new things and increase their knowledge. A good reader creates images in their mind based on what they read. In my case I like to read and write but I prefer to read even when I’m writing I express myself very well and I enjoy it. Since I was little I liked to read, I learned to read when I was in kindergarten. I always remember that in all places that my parents took me I read everything around me. My parents bought me a few chests that had five books and I read one every day. Since school I started to read novels quite long. In each school year I read at least five novels. Now I do it because I like it, right now I'm reading a book called 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. The first day I started reading I read the first hundred pages, now I read like three hours a day when I have time. On the other hand I rarely write as a hobby, most of the times are tasks of the university. I have written essays of six to eight pages, the most extensive I have written was a two hundred pages monograph when I was in twelfth grade. It was difficult and it was a job that entailed time but I enjoy it. At the time of reading and writing I was transport to another scene I concentrate fully on what I read or write, if it is a story I feel like part of the characters. I love from reading that at the same time I'm learning and knowing new things it becomes a hobby too, is acquisition of culture and development of intelligence. Reading not only provides information but helps to increase the techniques of reflection, analysis, effort, concentration and recreates, does enjoy, entertained and distracted. And I like to write because I can present my ideas to others and they can learn from my knowledge or just enjoy it as I do with the writings of different people. I also find fascinating the capability of a written to preserve and transmit information over generations. So I could recommend to anyone these two fascinating activities to learn as much as for a perfect hobby.
